Internationally renowned architect Kuma Kengo, celebrated for his iconic architectural works, visited Feng Chia University yesterday (11th) for an on‑site inspection of Virtuosi Hall, the only campus landscape building in Taiwan designed personally by him. Kuma remarked, “I am very much looking forward to the completion of Virtuosi Hall. It will be a timeless work of art jointly created by Feng Chia University and myself.”
Accompanied by Architect Kengo Kuma, partner Taro Sanada of Kengo Kuma & Associates, and design team member Meng‑Wei Lai, the group traveled from Japan to Taiwan for this visit. Despite the light drizzle at the construction site, Kuma carefully inspected every detail—from the steel columns of the main structure to the roof lattice system, from the grand reading staircase to classroom door handles, and from the pure‑white ceiling palette to the precision of glass‑joint connections. He engaged in thorough discussions with the construction, design, and supervision teams, as well as the University’s faculty members and staff, to review engineering details and construction progress.

Mr. Kengo Kuma meticulously inspected every design detail.
During this visit, Architect Kuma once again expressed strong appreciation for the deep involvement and professional commitment demonstrated by faculty members of the School of Architecture and the College of Construction and Development throughout the construction process. Their participation—particularly in BIM modeling processes, technical meetings, and on‑site reviews—embodies the University’s dedication to providing students with the finest learning resources. This commitment strongly resonates with Kuma’s own educational philosophy.
He noted that he eagerly anticipates the completion of Virtuosi Hall, echoing the words of Chairman Cheng‑Shu Kao: “Virtuosity is both an educational ideal and a practice. The humble yet powerful Virtuosi Hall is about to be born.”
