37 Young Leaders from Across Taiwan Gather at Feng Chia University for the Inaugural UWC Summer Camp

The first UWC (United World Colleges) Summer Camp in Taiwan was held at Feng Chia University from August 5 to 8, bringing together 37 students aged 14 to 17 from across Taiwan. Organized by UWC alumni from different parts of Taiwan, the camp marked the inaugural edition of the initiative. UWC is a global educational organization that offers a two-year pre-university program. Its 18 schools and colleges are located across Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Africa. Each year, UWC welcomes nearly 3,000 students from around 70 countries, guided by its mission of using education as a force for peace and sustainable development.

The camp was hosted at Feng Chia University not only because of its convenient location in central Taiwan, which made it easily accessible for participants nationwide, but also because of the strong foundation established through the University's collaboration with UWC on educational initiatives for Syrian refugees over the past two years. The camp's focus on resilience and positive impact also aligns closely with the University's commitment to sustainability and social responsibility.

During the opening ceremony, Distinguished Professor Chen-Yeon Chu, Dean of Sustainability at Feng Chia University, welcomed the participants and encouraged them to reflect on how they can put sustainability into practice and create meaningful impact in their communities and beyond.

“Have you ever thought about why we learn?” served as the starting question for this year’s camp. Through a series of activities and discussions, participants were encouraged to reflect on why they learn, consider how learning shapes the way they view the world, and ultimately explore what actions they can take. Combining critical thinking with practical application, the program inspired students to examine their motivations, values, and aspirations.

In addition to providing well-equipped accommodations and event facilities, Feng Chia University also prepared special gifts for participants through its Office of Student Recruitment and Admission. During the camp, Distinguished Professor Chen-Yeon Chu, Dean of Sustainability, introduced the University’s dual-degree programs with renowned partner institutions in Australia, the United States, Italy, and other countries. He expressed his hope that UWC graduates would consider Feng Chia University as a destination for further study, leveraging its diverse academic programs and international resources to develop a global perspective and interdisciplinary competitiveness.

To enhance the ability of university counseling professionals to identify and support students who have witnessed domestic violence, the Central Taiwan University and College Counseling Coordination and Consultation Center commissioned the Counseling Center under the Office of Student Affairs at Feng Chia University to organize the 2026 Professional Development Workshop on Counseling Students Exposed to Domestic Violence on July 27. The event attracted nearly 120 counseling professionals from universities and colleges across northern, central, southern, and eastern Taiwan to discuss trauma-informed care, recovery support, and cross-system collaboration practices.
