Feng Chia University Researcher Invited by Taichung Land Administration Bureau to Share Best Practices in Sustainability Governance

Researcher Shih-Ching Liu of the Office of Sustainability at Feng Chia University, who also serves as a faculty member in the Department of International Business, was invited by the Taichung City Government Land Administration Bureau on August 4 to serve as a keynote speaker for the training program titled “Sustainability Development Training: Public-Private Collaboration Strategies and SDG Value Creation.” The event brought together personnel from the Land Administration Bureau and land offices across Taichung City to discuss sustainability governance concepts and practical experiences in public-private collaboration.

During the training session, Shih-Ching Liu introduced the core framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) from a corporate perspective and supplemented the discussion with a variety of real-world public-private partnership case studies. By balancing theoretical concepts with practical applications, he encouraged participants to move beyond traditional administrative frameworks and explore how cross-sector cooperation can drive sustainable urban development. The session provided public-sector professionals with a deeper understanding of the essential principles underlying effective sustainability governance.

Professor Liu also emphasized that successful cross-sector collaboration depends on the establishment of sound mechanisms and governance structures. Drawing on practical examples, he highlighted the importance of aligning stakeholder incentives, clearly defining responsibilities, establishing effective governance mechanisms, and implementing transparent impact assessment systems. Through guided discussion and case analysis, participants were encouraged to consider how multi-stakeholder collaboration can enhance public-sector effectiveness and integrate sustainability principles into everyday policymaking and administrative operations.

For many years, Feng Chia University has actively promoted University Social Responsibility (USR) initiatives by transforming its teaching and research capabilities into meaningful social engagement. The Office of Sustainability noted that this invitation from the Taichung City Government Land Administration Bureau not only demonstrates the University’s professional expertise in advancing the SDGs, but also reflects its commitment to Quality Education (SDG 4), Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17).

Looking ahead, the University will continue strengthening collaboration among industry, government, and academia while sharing innovative sustainability practices with wider society. Through these efforts, Feng Chia University hopes to help cultivate more public-sector professionals equipped with sustainability-oriented thinking and governance capabilities.
