The Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science and the Office of Information Technology at Feng Chia University jointly hosted the 16th Private Universities Programming Contest (2026 PUPC) on July 15. As one of the most prestigious programming competitions among Taiwan’s private universities, the event also serves as an important stepping stone toward the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) Asia-Pacific Regional Contest. Conducted according to the standards of an official qualifying competition, the top 10 teams earned coveted qualification spots for the ICPC Taiwan Regional Contest.
This year’s competition attracted 75 teams and 225 contestants from universities nationwide. To align with international standards, all problems were presented entirely in English, with contestants required to solve at least 8 programming problems. Participants were challenged to demonstrate strong algorithmic thinking, English reading comprehension, and proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, Java, or Python. Competition rules required each team to consist of 3 students and 1 coach, with no cross-university or cross-team participation permitted, ensuring fairness and professionalism throughout the event.
As the host institution, Feng Chia University fielded 19 teams, marking its largest participation ever. The results were remarkable: the University captured 3 Gold Awards, 1 Silver Award, and 8 Bronze Awards, with a total of 12 teams receiving awards. Notably, among the 7 Gold Award-winning teams nationwide, 3 were from Feng Chia University, giving the University both the highest number of award-winning teams and the highest number of Gold Awards in this year’s competition.
Following the successful conclusion of 2026 PUPC, award-winning teams from Feng Chia University gathered for a group photo to celebrate their achievements.
Competition among the top teams was exceptionally intense. Fu Jen Catholic University’s“ONE ONE ONE” team claimed first place by solving 9 problems with a total time of 488 minutes. Tamkang University’s“TKU_NoNeedCodebook” also solved 9 problems and secured second place.
Feng Chia University’s Gold Award-winning teams achieved the following rankings:
- 3rd Place – “DoURememberHowManyLinesOfC…” (Solved 8 problems; Total Time: 614 minutes)
- 5th Place – “Peko ra story” (Solved 8 problems; Total Time: 702 minutes)
- 7th Place – “Strawberrry” (Solved 8 problems; Total Time: 744 minutes)
Feng Chia University’s competitive programming achievements have shown steady growth in recent years:
- 2023: 2 Gold Awards, 3 Silver Awards, and 3 Bronze Awards (8 winning teams)
- 2024: 1 Gold Award, 4 Silver Awards, and 4 Bronze Awards (9 winning teams)
- 2025: 1 Gold Award, 5 Silver Awards, and 8 Bronze Awards (14 winning teams)
In 2026, the University reached a new milestone by entering 19 teams, achieving a record-high 3 Gold Awards while once again surpassing its previous overall award performance.
The 16th Private Universities Programming Contest (PUPC) attracted 75 teams and 225 competitors from universities and colleges across Taiwan.
During the 4-hour competition, contestants from participating universities remained fully focused on solving programming challenges, demonstrating strong algorithmic thinking, problem-solving skills, and teamwork.
The organizers expressed their appreciation to Syscom Computer Engineering Co., Ltd. and Microprogram Information Co., Ltd. for their long-standing support of programming education and talent development within the Department. Representatives from both companies attended the awards ceremony and presented the Gold and Silver Awards in person. Their participation highlighted the strong partnership between academia and industry in cultivating future technology professionals.
The Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science noted that these outstanding results reflect the University’s sustained investment in programming education and innovative talent cultivation. From well-prepared hardware and software infrastructure to extensive contest simulations and training provided by dedicated faculty members, the University has created an environment that enables students to perform at their highest level. Looking ahead, the Department will continue integrating programming education with interdisciplinary technologies, encouraging students to participate in major domestic and international competitions and accumulate real-world experience while developing into highly competitive information technology professionals for Taiwan and beyond.
