In August 2026, the Feng Chia University Concert Band was invited to South Korea to participate in the Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival. The performing ensemble, composed of Feng Chia University alumni, current students, and members of the Taipei Wind Orchestra, gave performances on August 10 and 11 at the Jeju Aerospace Museum and the Jeju Seaside Outdoor Stage, respectively.
The Korea concert tour was led by internationally active clarinetist Bin Gan, founder of the Xingshao Wind Orchestra, with Sheng-Han Lin, President of the Feng Chia University Alumni Wind Orchestra, serving as delegation leader. The ensemble also featured euphonium soloist Shih-Yao Huang and pianist Yi-Hsin Tsai. The program included original wind ensemble compositions, solo works, and Taiwanese music. Highlights included Huang’s performance of the lyrical euphonium piece The Green Hill and Tsai’s collaboration with the band on River Flows in You. The ensemble also performed Rossano Galante’s The Winged Stallion and the Taiwan-inspired work Formosa, bringing distinctive Taiwanese musical elements to an international audience.

Euphonium soloist Shih-Yao Huang delivered an outstanding performance, showcasing the expressive and lyrical qualities of the instrument through his musical artistry.
The intergenerational Feng Chia University Concert Band moved to the Jeju Seaside Outdoor Stage for its second performance on August 11, attracting many local residents and visitors who stopped to enjoy the music.
The band’s connection with the Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival began in August 2012, followed by participation in 2016 and 2019. A planned appearance in 2023 was canceled due to a typhoon, making the 2026 invitation a long-awaited return. The first performance on August 10 at the Jeju Aerospace Museum drew families and children who gathered to listen, earning positive feedback from both audiences and festival organizers. During the festival, the ensemble also exchanged experiences with bands from various countries and regions. On the evening of August 11, the group completed its second and final performance of the Korea tour at the Jeju Seaside Outdoor Stage.
The Jeju tour also became a meaningful reunion across generations of Feng Chia musicians. Alumni who once rehearsed and performed on campus picked up their instruments once again to perform alongside current students. United by their shared passion for wind music, members from different generations came together, transforming the band’s longstanding tradition of mentorship and continuity into a vibrant musical experience on stage.
According to Sheng-Han Lin, President of the Feng Chia University Alumni Wind Orchestra, the most touching aspect of the tour was not simply the successful international performances, but seeing alumni willingly return to rehearse with younger musicians. “The true value of a band is not how many concerts it has performed, but whether, years later, people are still willing to come back together because of their love of music,” he said.
Alumni, current students of Feng Chia University, and members of the Taipei Wind Orchestra joined forces to form the performance ensemble that represented Taiwan at the Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival.
