The College of Construction and Development at Feng Chia University (FCU) and the National Association of Security Companies, R.O.C. have jointly established a partnership to cultivate professionals in building operations management. In collaboration with the Office of Industry-Academia Collaboration and Continuing Education, the two organizations will launch a new course,“Building Life-Cycle Management and Practice,” this September. In addition, a new Building Operations Management Track will be introduced within the Master’s Program of Construction Management for Working Professionals beginning in Academic Year 2027–28. The initiative aims to develop high-level professionals equipped with expertise in architecture, technology applications, and management.

As building management evolves toward smart technologies, sustainability, and life-cycle management, the field now encompasses a wide range of areas, including smart buildings, property management, risk governance, ESG practices, and urban resilience. It has expanded well beyond traditional facility maintenance.

Chao-Ming Su, Dean of the College of Construction and Development, noted that the college has long specialized in architecture, construction engineering, geospatial information, and smart city development. Through this new collaboration with industry partners, the college hopes to establish a talent cultivation model that more closely aligns with practical industry needs.

Ta-Chang Chang, Chairman of the National Association of Security Companies, R.O.C., emphasized that the future of the security industry must move beyond labor-intensive services by integrating technology, professional management, and academic research. He noted that only through such transformation can the industry cultivate advanced professionals with innovative thinking and a global perspective. The partnership with FCU is intended to build a strong talent pipeline for both the security and building management sectors.

The curriculum will be structured around the concept of building life-cycle management, covering the full spectrum of building development—from planning and design, construction management, and operations and maintenance to renewal and regeneration. Key topics will include facility management, smart building technologies, risk management, ESG governance, asset management, building diagnostics and assessment, carbon inventory and energy management, green building certification, and investment return analysis.

Emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), digital twins, and big data analytics will also be incorporated to strengthen participants’ capabilities in smart building operations and management.

The College of Construction and Development stated that it will continue to leverage resources from academia, industry, and government to deepen talent development and practical collaboration. Through curriculum innovation and cross-sector partnerships, FCU aims to cultivate professionals capable of meeting the demands of smart cities, sustainable buildings, and modern building operations management, while supporting the transformation and upgrading of Taiwan’s construction and property management industries.
