At the 20th Industrial Robot Competition in 2025, the Ai Club of Feng Chia University delivered an exceptional performance, achieving outstanding results in the AI Autonomous Vehicle Racing (College Division).
Among them, the team “This Robot Is Not Human”, composed of Tsai‑Hsuan Hung and Shao‑Ming Lu under the guidance of Professor Hwai‑Jung Hsu from the Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science, claimed the championship through their advanced image recognition technologies and precise vehicle tuning capabilities. Their achievement highlights the strong AI competence of Feng Chia University students.
The 20th Industrial Robot Competition was organized by the Taiwan Industrial Robot Association and hosted by Ling Tung University. Competing teams were required to develop autonomous vehicles driven by image recognition technologies to complete high‑speed runs on complex tracks while overcoming various obstacles. The competition rigorously tested contestants’ abilities in algorithm development, hardware tuning, and on‑site adaptation.

Students from the College of Information and Electrical Engineering at Feng Chia University achieved impressive results at the 2025 Industrial Robot Competition, earning first place, third place, and three Honorable Mentions.
Feng Chia University sent five teams to this year’s competition. The “Batong Fire Dragon” team earned third place, while the “Republic of China Army,” “Brazilian Fire Dragon,” and “Senna” teams all received Honorable Mention awards. These results reflect the strong competitiveness of Feng Chia University students in AI and robotics, while also demonstrating the university’s robust capabilities in intelligent vehicles and automation technologies.
Members of the champion team “This Robot Is Not Human” stated,
“We invested substantial time in algorithm optimization and vehicle testing before the competition. Winning first place is truly exciting for us, and we are deeply grateful for our advisor’s guidance.”
Professor Hwai‑Jung Hsu further explained that the team’s work applied image recognition to follow lane markings, supplemented with advanced sensing modules to avoid obstacles. Their autonomous vehicle completed the course in a short time, demonstrating stable control performance and the team's dedication to strengthening autonomous driving technologies—ultimately earning them this remarkable result.
Feng Chia University will continue encouraging faculty and students to actively participate in national and international competitions, steadily building experience and technical capability. The university looks forward to seeing its students excel in future events and contribute further innovation to the development of AI and autonomous vehicle technologies in Taiwan.
