Comprehensive Care, Warm‑Hearted Pay Raise

Amid salary adjustment measures announced by the Executive Yuan and various large corporations and universities, Feng Chia University unveiled its own warm‑hearted raise plan during the University’s Year‑End Appreciation Gathering on January 10. This salary adjustment covers all faculty members from lecturer level and above, and all administrative staff, including contracted and non‑tenure personnel—truly taking care of everyone at Feng Chia.

Faculty members are the foundation of the University. Feng Chia believes that adjustments to the Academic Research Allowance should be applied fairly across all teaching ranks. In addition to the Executive Yuan’s raise for assistant professors and above, Feng Chia has extended the same raise to lecturers and above, granting a 4% increase in base salary and a 15% raise in the Academic Research Allowance for all.

For administrative staff, while the Executive Yuan approved only a 4% raise for civil‑service‑equivalent staff, Feng Chia announced that all staff—regardless of employment type—will receive an 8% salary increase, including contracted colleagues.

Unlike fixed‑rate adjustments, Feng Chia carefully considered income distribution differences, aiming to offer greater support to colleagues with lower salaries. In addition to the Executive Yuan’s standard 4% raise, the University allocated another 4% of its total adjustment budget to distribute in fixed amounts per person, reducing the gap between high and low income earners. As a result, this year’s raises range from 10.1% for lower‑income employees to 6.3% for higher‑income employees, averaging 8% overall—a truly meaningful and heartwarming pay raise.

Feng Chia University extends its gratitude to the Ministry of Education for providing financial support for this raise, though the University estimates it will still need to invest over NT$50 million annually to maintain the adjustment.

Chairman Cheng‑Shu Kao encouraged all faculty and staff to work together in achieving even greater performance, ensuring that the joy brought by the salary increase is reflected in delivering higher‑quality education and in fulfilling Feng Chia University’s student‑centered educational philosophy.

A Transparent and Strong University: Delivering on Its Promise of a Happy Feng Chia

Known for its transparent financial management, Feng Chia has continued to thrive under the leadership of President Wei Wang. The University has ranked first among private universities in passing Taiwan’s senior civil service examinations for three consecutive years. It remains one of the most favored universities among employers, achieving full enrollment in the 2023–2024 academic year, with a bachelor’s program registration rate of 99.70%, ranking No. 1 among private universities nationwide. This demonstrates both strong student demand and satisfaction with FCU’s educational quality.

Feng Chia’s Industry‑Academia Collaboration and externally funded projects have exceeded NT$1 billion, the highest among comprehensive private universities in Taiwan. These collaborations provide students with direct access to real‑world industry cases while bringing diversified resources back to the University.

During this meaningful salary adjustment announcement, Chairman Cheng‑Shu Kao shared that tuition and miscellaneous fees, which used to account for 54% of annual revenue in Academic Year 100, have gradually decreased to 48% by Academic Year 112—now under half of total revenue. He emphasized that despite increased personnel costs, the University has carefully ensured that the raise will not lead to budget displacement, thanks to its stable financial foundation. Chairman Kao encouraged all faculty and staff to continue striving for excellence and to reflect the spirit of this raise through even stronger educational quality, staying true to the University’s student‑centered philosophy.

Breakthroughs in Aerospace Research and Continued Campus Advancement

Feng Chia University is currently focusing on three major research fields: Smart Applications, Net‑Zero Technology, and Space Technology. Corresponding research teams and centers have been established to integrate resources both inside and outside the University.

In November 2023, the University’s Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics successfully launched its student‑developed research rocket at the NSTC Short‑Term Research Sounding Rocket Launch Site in Syuhai, Pingtung. Feng Chia thus became the first university in Central Taiwan to enter the field of scientific rocket development, and the fifth in Taiwan to achieve a successful launch at this national facility.

Building the Best Campus in Taiwan: Virtuosi Hall Leading the Future Skyline

Ranked No. 1 among private universities in Taiwan in the QS World University Sustainability Rankings, Feng Chia University is committed to building one of the best campuses in the nation. Currently under construction, Virtuosi Hall—located in the heart of Taichung’s Shuinan Economic and Trade Park—is not only a landmark but also the largest campus investment since the University’s founding.

Designed by internationally renowned architect Kengo Kuma, Virtuosi Hall features a two‑story landscape structure with a green roof, embodying Feng Chia’s dedication to low‑carbon living and sustainable education. Steel structures for major facilities—such as the multi‑functional auditorium and smart digital classrooms—are now visible on the 5.7‑hectare new campus site.

Expected to be completed next year, Virtuosi Hall will redefine the Feng Chia campus experience, allowing students and faculty to learn freely within an architectural masterpiece. Together with nearby public developments such as the Taichung International Convention and Exhibition Center and the Taichung Green Museum and Library, the building will contribute to a smarter, greener, and more innovative skyline for Taichung.
