Feng Chia University and Italy’s leading engineering institution, Politecnico di Torino, jointly hosted their first-ever International Summer School on Cybersecurity, Microelectronics, and Emerging Technologies from July 6 to 10. The program brought together nine students from Feng Chia University's College of Information and Electrical Engineering and 27 students from Italy.
Participants had the opportunity to visit Italy’s first IQM five-qubit superconducting quantum computer, completed in 2025 at a cost of approximately €1 million. Through technical lectures, laboratory visits, and international project-based learning, students experienced a world-class research environment beyond the boundaries of a single academic system.
Originally established in 1859 as an engineering school, Politecnico di Torino has consistently ranked among the world’s top 50 universities in engineering and technology disciplines in the QS World University Rankings. Meanwhile, Feng Chia University's College of Information and Electrical Engineering has actively promoted project-based learning and collaborated with leading semiconductor companies such as TSMC, Micron, Macronix, and Ardentec through industry-sponsored programs and joint laboratories to cultivate future talent.
Leading the delegation was Dean Tzu-Wang Shen, accompanied by Chao-Lung Chou and Tzu-Wei Lin from the Master's Program of Cyber Security, Tang-Jie Liu and Cheng-Li Lin from the Department of Electronic Engineering, and Feng-Jeng Lin from the Department of Information Engineering, who delivered technical lectures during the program. On the Italian side, 11 scholars and experts from Politecnico di Torino, CERN, STMicroelectronics, and Argotec shared their expertise on topics including deepfake detection, hybrid threats in cyber-physical systems, electronic design automation (EDA), embedded AI, RISC-V cryptographic hardware accelerators, digital forensics, embodied-agent 2D/3D learning, and space mission flight software.

Thirty-six students from Taiwan and Italy posed for a group photo at Politecnico di Torino alongside six professors from Feng Chia University and 11 faculty members and industry experts from Italy.
A highlight of the summer school was the Collaboration Lab. Students first introduced their research interests and expertise through one-minute presentations, after which they were reorganized into mixed international teams.
Drawing on their complementary skills, the teams developed collaborative project concepts and mapped out two-year research roadmaps detailing project objectives, timelines, potential applications, and anticipated challenges. On July 10, all 36 students presented their results at the historic Castello del Valentino in Turin and successfully completed the program, earning certificates of completion.

The five-day overseas learning program featured technical lectures, laboratory demonstrations, and collaborative international project development.
The partnership extends far beyond the summer school and has already been translated into long-term degree opportunities. Students from Feng Chia University's Master's Program of Cyber Security and Department of Electronic Engineering can currently pursue a dual master's degree through a “1+1” pathway, studying their first year at Feng Chia University and the second year in Italy.
During the visit, Dean Tzu-Wang Shen met with Sapora, Vice Rector for International Affairs at Politecnico di Torino, to review the achievements of the collaboration. Both sides expressed strong support for further expanding cooperation into semiconductor-related fields and across the entire College of Information and Electrical Engineering, including the Departments of Information Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automatic Control Engineering, and Communications Engineering.
In addition, discussions have begun regarding a joint doctoral-degree framework. The two universities are actively exploring practical arrangements involving tuition, living support, and language and cultural adaptation, with the shared goal of providing Feng Chia students with broader and more sustainable international academic opportunities.
