More outstanding international recognition arrived on May 26 for Feng Chia University's Mr. He Yiwu Chair Professor Chin-Chen Chang. In recognition of his pioneering contributions at the intersection of information security, cryptography, and artificial intelligence, Professor Chang has been formally awarded the distinction of AAIS Fellow—the highest honor conferred by the International Academy of Artificial Intelligence Sciences (AAIS).

AAIS is the successor to the Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association (AAIA), founded in 2021, and serves as an international academic organization that brings together leading scholars in AI and the sciences worldwide to advance cross-disciplinary innovation at the frontiers of technology. AAIS currently counts 2,532 Fellows, among whom are numerous landmark figures in global science and engineering. The roster includes two Nobel Prize laureates, three recipients of the ACM Turing Award—the highest honor in computer science—as well as hundreds of international academicians affiliated with the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), the Royal Society, and Academia Europaea. Professor Chang's inclusion alongside world-class scientific luminaries represents the highest form of international recognition for his decades of academic achievement, and further demonstrates Taiwan's formidable strength in the fields of AI and information security.

Professor Chin-Chen Chang's standing in the international academic community is well established, and his election as an AAIS Fellow marks his fourth major international distinction in recent years. Previously, he was elected Fellow of Academia Europaea in London and Fellow of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts in Austria, both in 2023; in 2025, he was further elected Fellow of the National Academy of Artificial Intelligence (NAAI) in the United States. Notably, among the 86 Fellows inducted by NAAI in 2025, Professor Chang was the sole representative from Taiwan, named alongside NVIDIA founder Jensen Huang and leading researchers and scholars from institutions including Google Brain, Google DeepMind, Facebook AI Research, and OpenAI—a testament to his prominence in the global academic arena.

In addition to recognition by national academies worldwide, Professor Chang also holds fellowship in the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE Fellow), the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET Fellow), the Computer Society of the Republic of China (CS Fellow), and the Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association (AAIA Fellow).

As the first recipient in Taiwan of a National Doctoral Degree in Computer Engineering, Professor Chin-Chen Chang has dedicated his career to academic research and the cultivation of future scholars. With characteristic rigor and commitment, he has to date published more than one thousand academic papers and 40 monographs, and holds 41 patents across the United States, China, and Taiwan. According to Google Scholar, his work has been cited more than 50,000 times, with an H-index of 105. He has also been ranked 189th globally in career-impact in the fields of artificial intelligence and image processing on Stanford University's "World's Top 2% Scientists" list.

Reflecting on his distinguished academic career, Professor Chang's contributions to education and scientific research in Taiwan have earned widespread recognition both domestically and internationally. In Taiwan, he has received honors including the Yuan-Tseh Lee Chair Professorship, five consecutive National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) Outstanding Research Awards, the NSTC Distinguished Research Fellowship, the Outstanding Engineering Professor Award, two Sun Yat-sen Academic Publication Awards, and the Top Ten Outstanding Information Technology Professionals Award. On the international stage, he has been recognized with the Asian Information Security Lifetime Achievement Award, the inaugural IET Distinguished Researcher Award, and outstanding paper awards from leading international journals including JSS and Pattern Recognition Letters. Through his steadfast dedication to research and his wealth of scholarly achievement, Professor Chin-Chen Chang has not only established a distinguished academic standard at Feng Chia University, but continues to project Taiwan's influence and excellence onto the global stage.
