Yu-Chi Wang, Associate Professor in the Foreign Language Center of Feng Chia University’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences, has been selected as a 2026 Taichung City Distinguished Educator in recognition of her innovative English teaching approaches that integrate sports, critical thinking training, and positive psychology, as well as her dedicated mentorship of students.

A key factor behind Wang’s achievement is her long-term commitment to the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. She has received funding from the Ministry of Education’s Teaching Practice Research Program five times, in 2019, 2021, 2023, 2024, and 2025. Her research has expanded beyond language acquisition to encompass students’ emotional well-being and holistic development. Projects such as “Experiencing Learning Through English and Badminton: Exploring Learning Motivation and Creative Thinking in an Integrated Sports-and-English Curriculum” incorporated physical activity into language learning, while “Visible Thinking in English Speaking and Expression Courses” focused on fostering students’ thinking skills. In 2025, she further introduced positive psychology into English as a Foreign Language (EFL) instruction through her project “Applying Positive Psychology and Peer Cooperative Learning in EFL Teaching.”

These research initiatives have been directly incorporated into Wang’s teaching practice. In courses such as College English, Advanced College English, and Workplace Oral Communication in English, she places strong emphasis on speaking activities and group discussions, encouraging students to think critically and engage actively with one another. Assessment methods extend beyond traditional paper-based examinations, reflecting her commitment to interactive and learner-centered education.

Professor Wang’s dedication is also evident in consistently high levels of student satisfaction. In end-of-semester feedback, many students described her as “one of the best teachers I have ever had,” praising her clear explanations, patience, and supportive teaching style. Others identified her classes as their favorite courses of the semester. Students noted that the courses significantly improved their English speaking abilities and provided valuable skills for both future careers and everyday life.

Her selection as a 2026 Taichung City Distinguished Educator recognizes her long-standing commitment to excellence in English language education while also reflecting Feng Chia University’s continued efforts to enhance the quality of foreign language instruction and advance innovative educational practices.
