FCU Chinese Language Center students Hong-Yen Nguyen (right 2) and Robin Schier (right 1) won first and second place in the A2 Basic-Level category of the 2026 International Student Chinese Speech Contest, hosted by National Chin-Yi University of Technology.
First-place winner Hong-Yen Nguyen delivered a speech titled “The Story and Significance of the Spring Festival.” She introduced the origins and traditions of the Lunar New Year and shared her fascination with Taiwan’s unique scratch-off lottery culture during the holiday season. Her sincere and engaging presentation left a strong impression on the judges.
Second-place winner Robin Schier spoke on the topic “Taiwanese Cuisine.” Rather than focusing on commonly mentioned favorites such as bubble tea or fried chicken, he drew from his own experiences as a vegetarian to introduce Taiwan’s rich and diverse vegetarian food culture. His distinctive perspective was well received by both the judges and audience.
The achievements of these two students reflect not only their passion for learning Mandarin Chinese and their dedication to language study, but also the guidance of instructor Ching-Wan Chou, whose support played a vital role in their success.
