In recent years, Taiwan’s traditional manufacturing industries have faced mounting challenges, including international tariff adjustments, exchange rate fluctuations, and labor shortages. To help local businesses enhance their competitiveness, the Taichung City Government Economic Development Bureau commissioned Feng Chia University to establish the Enterprise AI Academy from December 2025 to March 2026. Through training programs focused on lean management and AI applications, the initiative assisted businesses in upgrading operations ranging from inventory management and production automation to data-driven decision-making.
During the program, 110 participants successfully completed the training and received certificates. They returned to their workplaces equipped with practical AI knowledge, helping 88 local designated factories integrate AI technologies into real-world administrative, production, and marketing operations.
For many employees, the program represented more than professional training—it transformed the way they work. For example, Dong Sing Machinery implemented a “digital employee” solution through its AI project, reducing the burden of monthly financial and administrative reporting while enabling management to access operational data more efficiently. Employees also benefited from streamlined workflows that improved work-life balance.
Similarly, Kuan Liang Industrial incorporated the experience of senior maintenance technicians into an AI-based knowledge system, creating an “AI Maintenance Advisor.” New employees can consult the system whenever problems arise, reducing the training and familiarization period by approximately 30 percent.
To expand the impact of the initiative and encourage cross-sector dialogue, the Economic Development Bureau and Feng Chia University jointly hosted the “Bridging the Gap in AI Applications: AI Implementation Exchange Forum” on April 17 at the Millennium Hotel Taichung. The event attracted more than 84 representatives from industry, government, academia, and research organizations.
During the forum, Jih-Hsin She, Director of the Taiwan Smart Manufacturing Innovation Center at Feng Chia University, delivered a keynote presentation titled “Bridging the Gap in AI Applications.” Drawing on two and a half years of practical experience supporting AI implementation across industries, he introduced the “5M Framework,” which guides enterprises through AI transformation by addressing Motivation, Market, Management, Manufacturing, and Measurable Benefits. The framework provides businesses with a structured pathway for adopting AI technologies effectively.
In the panel discussions and technology showcase sessions, Hsu-An Hsu, Chairperson of Future Nest Technology, emphasized that the success of AI adoption depends not primarily on selecting the right tools, but on establishing a solid and structured knowledge foundation. By systematically organizing organizational knowledge and integrating it with AI systems, companies can transform accumulated experience into sustainable competitive advantages.

The forum not only extended the achievements of the Enterprise AI Academy but also strengthened collaboration among industry, government, academia, and research institutions. It provided local businesses with opportunities to understand emerging AI trends and connect with available resources.
Looking ahead, the Taichung City Government and Feng Chia University plan to continue promoting AI-related training and exchange programs, gradually building a comprehensive industrial AI ecosystem in Taichung. By helping enterprises advance from digitalization to intelligent transformation and sustainable development, these efforts aim to strengthen regional industrial competitiveness and reinforce Taichung’s position as a leading hub for smart manufacturing and AI applications.
