In response to the global transition toward net-zero emissions and the rapid growth of the renewable energy sector, Feng Chia University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on April 30 with Fengmiao Offshore Wind Power Co., Ltd., a company under Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP). The signing ceremony took place at the Taichung City Government, marking the beginning of a strategic industry–academia partnership focused on offshore wind power education, internships, and professional exchange.

Under the agreement, both parties will collaborate on the development of offshore wind power micro-credential programs, industry internships, and practical learning opportunities, jointly cultivating the next generation of talent needed to support Taiwan’s sustainable energy transition.

The ceremony, themed “Wind Rising in Taichung, Creating a Sustainable Future Together,” was attended by representatives from the Taichung City Government, local fishing associations, the Coast Guard Administration, community stakeholders, and industry partners. Representing Feng Chia University, Chao-Ming Su, Dean of the College of Construction and Development, signed the agreement, accompanied by Yi-Hsiang Hsu, Chair of the Department of Urban Planning and Spatial Information, and Professor Tzu-Chiang Lei.

Chung-Tien Huang, Secretary-General of the Taichung City Government, noted that the Fengmiao Offshore Wind Project is an important milestone in Taiwan’s renewable energy development. Through collaboration with Feng Chia University and Tunghai University, the project can leverage Taichung’s strong industrial foundation while strengthening local expertise and talent development to support sustainable urban development.

Dean Chao-Ming Su emphasized that Feng Chia University has long been committed to education and research in green energy, smart cities, geospatial information, and interdisciplinary learning. Supported by extensive experience in industry-academia collaboration, the University views this partnership as an important opportunity to deepen engagement with the renewable energy sector.

The collaboration will further support the development of an Offshore Wind Power Micro Program, enabling students to gain exposure to real-world industrial environments and strengthen the connection between academic learning and professional practice.

Notably, the partnership was facilitated by Jui-Wen Tai, Secretary-General of the Fengmiao Offshore Wind Project’s Central Taiwan Promotion Office and a second-generation alumnus of FCU’s Department of Urban Planning and Spatial Information. Motivated by a desire to give back to his alma mater, Tai hopes to create more career opportunities for future FCU students while promoting collaboration between academia and industry.

The Fengmiao Offshore Wind Farm, located off the coast of Taichung, is expected to install 33 wind turbines in its first phase, with a total planned capacity of 500 MW. As a landmark renewable energy project, it encompasses not only engineering and power generation, but also spatial planning, infrastructure development, port logistics, environmental monitoring, stakeholder engagement, governance, and sustainability issues. These dimensions align closely with FCU’s long-standing emphasis on interdisciplinary education and applied learning.

Looking ahead, Feng Chia University will continue strengthening collaborations with industry and local communities through curriculum development, project-based learning, internship opportunities, industry mentoring, and research partnerships. The goal is to build a comprehensive green energy talent development platform that equips students with the professional skills and practical perspectives necessary to address the challenges of net-zero transformation and sustainable development.

By integrating knowledge, talent cultivation, and social practice, the University aims to contribute to Taichung’s emergence as a hub for renewable energy, innovation, and sustainable development.
