WBC Star Sheng-Jui Sung Visits Feng Chia University to Share My Baseball Journey

Sheng-Jui Sung, a member of Team Taiwan in the 2026 World Baseball Classic (WBC) and spokesperson for the 2026 Reading MVP campaign, visited the Main Library of Feng Chia University on April 20 to share his reading and baseball experiences. The event attracted more than 200 faculty members and students, with enthusiastic participation and lively interactions throughout the session.

During the sharing session, Sung reflected on his baseball journey, from his childhood dream of becoming a player to his years of training in high school. After graduating, he entered professional baseball and continued to refine his skills through constant self-improvement and adjustment. Drawing on his experiences in professional competition and international tournaments, he emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive mindset, staying composed under pressure, learning from challenges, and continuously improving.

Sung also introduced a book that greatly inspired him, My Baseball Journey, the autobiography of legendary baseball player Sadaharu Oh. By learning from the experiences of those who came before him, he gained valuable insights into mental resilience and career development. He noted that reading helps cultivate concentration and critical thinking skills, which also benefit athletes on the field. Through both his personal stories and a Q&A session, Sung engaged directly with students and shared the lessons he learned from international competition.

In his remarks, Main Library Director Wen-Hsiang Lai thanked China Trust Commercial Bank for its long-term commitment to promoting reading on campus through reading initiatives and athlete-sharing events that connect literature with sports.

The event also featured Angela Huang, a student from the Department of Aerospace and Systems Engineering, who shared her experience participating in last year's "Reading Home Run: Borrow Books and Exchange for Baseball Tickets" program. As both an avid reader and baseball fan, she noted that the program successfully combines reading and sports, encouraging students to read more while enjoying live baseball games.

China Trust Commercial Bank has long promoted reading through its Reading MVP campaign in collaboration with public and university libraries. Feng Chia University has partnered with the bank for two consecutive years to offer a program that allows students to exchange borrowed books for vouchers to CTBC Brothers home games. By linking reading with professional baseball experiences, the initiative encourages students to read more, engage actively in learning, and broaden their horizons.
