The Wind Band of Feng Chia University once again earned a Superior Award at the 2025–2026 National Student Music Competition on March 15. With its outstanding performance and remarkable ensemble cohesion, the band extended its record to 13 consecutive years of Superior Awards in the University Wind Ensemble Division B category. This achievement represents far more than a number; it stands as a testament to the unwavering dedication, passion, and commitment to music shared by generations of Feng Chia musicians.
The Feng Chia University Wind Band received a Superior Award in the University Division B category at the 2025–2026 National Student Music Competition, achieving an impressive record of 13 consecutive Superior Awards.
The competition began promptly at 8:30 a.m., with the Feng Chia Wind Band appearing as the second ensemble of the day. Throughout the performance, members demonstrated exceptional stability and musicianship. Their selected repertoire featured distinctive musical character and precise transitions, earning praise from the judging panel.
In their comments, the judges commended the ensemble for its “beautiful and full-bodied tone quality, outstanding blend, and exceptional balance among sections.” They particularly highlighted the refined dynamic control throughout the performance, noting how effectively the ensemble conveyed both rhythmic vitality and lyrical expression.
“The performance displayed clear musical layers, with dynamic contrasts and dramatic intensity handled with remarkable precision,” the judges remarked.
According to the panel, the Feng Chia Wind Band demonstrated a mature and engaging ensemble capability, delivering a performance that successfully combined stage presence with artistic depth.
Hsing-Jung Huang, President of the Wind Band, shared that members devoted extensive time and energy to preparation before the competition. Despite busy academic schedules, students continued rehearsing and refining details in pursuit of presenting their best musical performance.
She also expressed sincere appreciation to Yen-Ching Lu, the band’s conductor and instructor, for his patient guidance and continuous support throughout the preparation process. His mentorship has helped students grow musically while strengthening the unity of the ensemble.
More than 20 members of the Feng Chia University Alumni Wind Band traveled to Nantou on the day of the competition to support the current students, demonstrating the strong bonds that connect different generations of band members.
Sheng-Han Lin, advisor to the Alumni Wind Band, remarked emotionally : “It is truly inspiring to watch the students practice diligently and pursue music with such genuine enthusiasm.”
He noted that the ensemble’s long-term success is the result of years of dedication and hard work by successive generations of members.
Looking ahead, the Alumni Wind Band will continue supporting younger musicians by sharing experience, resources, and guidance, ensuring that the spirit of Feng Chia Wind Band continues to be passed down and flourish for years to come.
