Feng Chia University Winter Service Teams Commissioned:11 Teams and 369 Students to Bring Care and Support to Rural Schools

The Office of Student Affairs at Feng Chia University held the commissioning ceremony for the 2025 Winter Service Teams on January 8, marking the official launch of this year’s winter service initiatives. A total of 11 service teams formed by student clubs, comprising 369 volunteers, will participate in the program and are expected to serve more than 700 schoolchildren. Through educational companionship and diverse learning activities, the teams will bring care and hope to schools and local communities while demonstrating Feng Chia students’ commitment to social engagement and civic responsibility.

This year’s winter service teams will travel to elementary schools across several counties and cities in central and southern Taiwan, including Miaoli, Taichung, Nantou, Yunlin, and Tainan. Service sites encompass rural and various types of school communities. Each team has designed courses and companionship activities tailored to local needs, allowing students to engage directly with communities and young learners while bringing the energy of youth service into diverse settings. Their efforts reflect a strong spirit of public service and a willingness to contribute regardless of distance.

At the commissioning ceremony, Dean Hui-Kuang Yu of the Office of Student Affairs presented the university flag to each service team, symbolizing the official commencement of their mission and responsibilities. Meng-Kai Kuo, President of the Accounting Student Association under the Department of Accounting, led all volunteers in the service pledge. The ceremony was both solemn and warm, highlighting the teams’ strong sense of unity and youthful enthusiasm.

To ensure the quality and preparedness of the service activities, Yi-Chen LEE, a psychologist from the Counseling Center, was invited to share insights on gender equity issues after the ceremony. She reminded volunteers of the importance of gender equity awareness and related practical considerations during their service work. The session encouraged students to maintain not only their passion for service but also a professional and thoughtful approach when engaging with local communities.

Student clubs at Feng Chia University have long dedicated themselves to public service and rural outreach during winter and summer breaks. The commissioning ceremony not only recognized students’ passion for service but also strengthened their sense of responsibility and honor. Through serving others, team members continuously learn, reflect, gain experience, and grow personally, creating a positive cycle that combines social care with self-improvement.
