Once again achieving remarkable results in the field of technical and vocational competitions, Chen-Yi Lin, a student from the Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science, Feng Chia University, and alumnus Yen-Ting Kuo, stood out in the "Cloud Computing" category at the 55th National Skills Competition, winning first and third place respectively. Both have successfully advanced to the second stage of the national team selection and will represent Feng Chia University in the next round of domestic selection, striving to qualify for the 3rd Asian Skills Competition in 2025 and the 48th WorldSkills Competition in 2026.

This year's competition was grandly held from July 16 to 20 at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, bringing together 1,231 technical and vocational talents from across Taiwan to compete in 69 categories. It is the largest and most representative skills competition in Taiwan. As a prelude to Asian and international competitions, this event is not only the highest stage for domestic technical talents but also carries the important mission of selecting national representatives.

Chen-Yi Lin won first place in the Cloud Computing category, taking the top spot in all five competition subjects and demonstrating remarkable strength. Humbly sharing his growth journey, he mentioned that two years ago, when he first participated, he was just a beginner in cloud computing. Although he unexpectedly won third place nationally, he did not have the opportunity to represent the country. This time, facing about 70% of technical content he had never encountered before, he was still able to solve each challenge with a solid foundation and strong self-learning ability, even being the first to score in several subjects (commonly known as "first blood"). He said, "Cloud computing is not just about platform operation; more importantly, it is about logical reasoning, information searching, and continuous self-learning to avoid being left behind in the rapidly changing world of technology."

Reflecting on his learning journey, Chen-Yi Lin expressed gratitude for the diverse resources provided by the university in the field of cloud computing, including course training, project development experience accumulated during his internship at the Office of Information Technology and Cloud Innovation School, and the dedicated guidance from faculty in interdisciplinary graduation projects. He also thanked his past self: "I still remember that summer vacation when I suddenly started learning to write a Python chatbot on my phone, embarking on a path of self-learning, hitting walls, and breaking through them." It is this passion and perseverance for information technology that enabled him to shine on the national stage.

Yen-Ting Kuo, an alumnus of the Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science, won the national silver medal for Feng Chia last year and is currently pursuing graduate studies at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University. He stated that he feels honored to be shortlisted for the national team selection again, which has given him clearer goals in both academic and practical pursuits. He pointed out that graduate courses have laid a solid technical foundation for him, and by participating in AWS projects, he has applied theory to real-world scenarios. To continuously enhance his practical skills, he actively participates in technical sharing sessions by AWS, Google, and others, and hones his skills through regional exchange competitions organized by Feng Chia. These valuable experiences have broadened his perspective on cloud computing and have been key to his outstanding performance in national competitions for two consecutive years.

The National Skills Competition is not only an important annual event for technical and vocational education in Taiwan but also bears the responsibility of selecting representatives for international competitions. Contestants who have placed in the top three in each category in previous competitions are eligible for the national team selection. This time, two representatives from Feng Chia University stood out from fierce competition and successfully secured tickets to the second stage of the national team selection. This stage is scheduled to be held from September 5 to 7 at the Central Taiwan Branch, Workforce Development Agency, Ministry of Labor. The final representatives for the Asian and WorldSkills competitions will be selected based on the combined results of the first stage (40%) and the second stage (60%).

Feng Chia University has always placed great emphasis on students' practical abilities and industry connections, actively encouraging students to participate in skills competitions and innovation challenges. With both Chen-Yi Lin and Yen-Ting Kuo advancing, they have brought honor to the university. The school will continue to provide resources and support, accompanying the contestants as they prepare for the next stage, striving for national team glory and aiming for the international stage.
