The Department of Automatic Control Engineering at Feng Chia University held its grand 50+ Anniversary Celebration on April 25, welcoming more than 300 alumni back to campus for a reunion. As the only academic department in Taiwan bearing the name “Automatic Control Engineering,” the department has built a distinguished legacy over the past half-century. This year, it added another milestone by becoming the first program in Taiwan to receive the EUR-ACE® label from the European Network for Accreditation of Engineering Education (ENAEE), marking a significant achievement in engineering education.
Founded in 1974 under the leadership of founding chair Dr. Chia-Ming Hsu, the department has educated more than 4,000 graduates, many of whom have gone on to make significant contributions across a wide range of industries.
The day began with an Alumni Assembly held in the Third International Conference Hall, where participants viewed a memorial video honoring Dr. Hsu’s contributions to the establishment and development of the department. During the gathering, Department Chair Pen-Yi Liao and Honorary Alumni Association President Meng-Yu Lin welcomed returning alumni on behalf of the department and alumni association.
Following the assembly, alumni were invited to tour the newly completed Co-Goodness Building, designed by internationally renowned architect Kengo Kuma and officially opened in early 2025. The visit provided alumni with an opportunity to experience the University’s latest developments and innovations firsthand.
The anniversary luncheon was held in the University Gymnasium, with more than 30 banquet tables and a vibrant atmosphere filled with reunion and celebration. The event opened with attendees singing the FCU alma mater song together, reflecting the strong sense of community and pride shared among FCU alumni.
Distinguished guests in attendance included Chairperson Cheng-Shu Kao, Vice President Kuo-Hao Tang, and Student Association President Shih-Ting Yang, among other faculty members and University representatives.
In his remarks, Chairperson Kao highlighted Feng Chia University’s recent accomplishments and praised the remarkable achievements of Automatic Control Engineering alumni across various industries. His message underscored the department’s long-standing impact on Taiwan’s scientific and technological development.
Throughout the luncheon, alumni from different generations shared memories, reconnected with classmates, and reflected on their experiences at FCU. The gathering not only celebrated the department’s proud history but also recognized the accomplishments of its alumni and the University’s continued growth.
