To celebrate Feng Chia University’s 65th anniversary, two alumni ensembles, the Feng Chia Alumni Choir and the Feng Chia University Alumni Wind Orchestra, joined forces to present“Joy & Melody: A Classic Encounter” at the Grand Theater of the National Taichung Theater on September 28. The performance attracted more than 1,200 audience members and brought together current students and alumni spanning several generations, who expressed their birthday wishes to their alma mater through music.
From planning to performance, the concert was organized entirely through alumni collaboration. Yu-Hsin Lin, Chairperson of the Taichung Feng Chia University Alumni Association, Jian-Tsong Wang, Secretary-General, and the association’s leadership team coordinated the event, with EMBA alumni also contributing to its organization. Sheng-Han Lin, Director of the Feng Chia University Alumni Wind Orchestra, served as Music Director, connecting alumni from different professions and generations through the shared effort of producing the concert. Vey Wang, President of Feng Chia University, together with faculty members and guests, attended the event to celebrate this special musical tribute to the university’s 65th anniversary.

The Feng Chia Alumni Choir and the Feng Chia University Alumni Wind Orchestra performed together at the National Taichung Theater as part of the university’s 65th anniversary celebration, bringing together current students and alumni from different generations through choral and wind ensemble music to honor their alma mater.

The concert was conducted by Yuan-Lei Chu, who has led the Feng Chia Alumni Choir for many years, and Wen-Chung Lu, a longtime advocate of wind music education and ensemble conducting. Pei-Chieh Kuo served as pianist, while renowned music producer Po-Chieh Lin, Music Director of Jingo Records, provided program commentary.
In their individual performances, the Feng Chia Alumni Choir presented A Song for You, with lyrics by Yu-Chun Chen and music by Ching-Ju Shih; Blessing, composed by Chung-Yuan Huang and arranged by Sheng-Hsien Liu; and The Joy of Snowflakes, composed by Hsin-Chuan Chou based on a poem by Xu Zhimo. Meanwhile, the Feng Chia University Alumni Wind Orchestra performed Sky Knights by Japanese composer Hiroaki Kataoka and The Winged Stallion by American composer Rossano Galante.
The highlight of the evening was the joint performance by the choir and wind orchestra. Together they presented beloved classics such as City Moonlight and Spring Breeze Kisses My Face, before concluding with a choral and wind ensemble arrangement of the Cape No. 7 Film Suite. The familiar melodies from the iconic film were reimagined through the interplay of voices and wind instruments, bringing the concert to a memorable close and earning enthusiastic applause from the audience.
Participating alumni noted that although members came from different graduating classes and generations and had pursued diverse career paths after leaving campus, music remained their common language. The concert rekindled connections among Feng Chia musicians and created new artistic sparks through the collaboration of choir and wind ensemble.
Among the performers were alumni appearing on a national-level stage for the first time, as well as others who had not performed publicly for many years and were inspired to pick up their instruments again because of this event. Over the past 65 years, generations of Feng Chia students have gone on to diverse professions and walks of life. As part of the university’s 65th anniversary celebration, this alumni-organized and alumni-performed concert brought together Feng Chia people from different eras, academic disciplines, and careers, reunited once again through a shared love of music.
