Students from the Department of Automatic Control Engineering at Feng Chia University achieved an outstanding result at the Robot Dog Competition Challenge, organized by Swancor Smart Technology Co., Ltd., which was held at the College of Medicine, I-Shou University, on April 25–26.
Under the encouragement of Professor Chih-Cheng Chen, junior students Tzu-Chieh Lin and Yu-Hao Lin entered the competition and delivered an impressive performance. During the category challenge event on April 25, the team demonstrated strong technical capabilities and secured first place in an individual challenge category. Building on that success, they advanced to the more demanding comprehensive competition on April 26 and ultimately earned second place in the Overall Challenge Division.
The competition centered on TAIBOT AI quadruped robots, requiring participating teams to complete a series of tasks using Swancor Smart Technology’s SENTINEL 01-LITE, 01-STD, or 01-PRO robot dog platforms. The challenges tested students’ abilities in mechatronics integration, autonomous control, programming, and artificial intelligence applications.
One example was the “Dragon Tail Swing” challenge, in which competitors had to guide their robot dogs through an S-shaped route while accurately avoiding traffic cone obstacles. These tasks comprehensively evaluated participants’ technical knowledge and problem-solving skills in intelligent robotics systems.
Beyond technical competition, the two-day event also provided a valuable platform for participants from different universities to exchange ideas and learn from one another.
Lin and Lin shared that this was not their first robotics competition. Experiences gained from previous contests and technical challenges became important foundations for their growth and success. Achieving first place in an individual challenge category and subsequently winning second place overall made the experience particularly rewarding and meaningful.
Looking ahead, both students hope to transform this hands-on competition experience into further motivation for learning and innovation. They plan to continue deepening their expertise in mechatronics systems, automation, and artificial intelligence, while steadily developing their professional skills for future challenges and opportunities.
