The International Awards Associate (IAA), organizer of the TITAN Innovation Design Awards, recently announced the winners of its latest competition. Sophie Colline, Associate Professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Systems Management at Feng Chia University, stood out among competitors from around the world with her work Symbiosis, earning the Silver Award in the Innovation in Design – Movie and Animation Design category.
Symbiosis is an immersive creation that combines interactive video and installation art. Inspired by the primeval forests of Alishan in Taiwan, the artist draws upon extensive field observations to transform the centuries-long survival relationship between ancient trees and epiphytic plants into a visual exploration of the philosophy of symbiosis.
The work’s central visual element is a group of vivid fluorescent-pink, cell-like organisms. Resembling microscopic particles or viruses, these forms drift through a virtual landscape of mountain mist and clouds. Through sophisticated interactive technology, they track viewers’ movements in real time, turning every visitor who enters the exhibition space into an indispensable part of the ecosystem.

Associate Professor Sophie Colline of the Department of Industrial Engineering and Systems Management won the Silver Award in the 2026 TITAN Innovation in Design competition with her work Symbiosis.
Beyond its striking visual impact, Symbiosis demonstrates exceptional creativity in its integration of sound and spatial context:
- A Bilingual Audio Dialogue: Two contrasting voices intertwine throughout the work. A female voice, evoking an extraterrestrial being or deity, continuously questions the boundaries of perception and symbiosis. In contrast, a male voice recites passages in French from Art Poétique by poet Paul Claudel, reflecting on the forces of nature and geometry.
- Physical Installation and Memory: The final presentation is displayed on a nostalgic vintage television set, accompanied by a Fnac bookstore shopping bag and a secondhand copy of Art Poétique, carefully arranged above the screen.
Through photography, digital editing, and the reconfiguration of physical space, the artist materializes abstract philosophical concepts into a tangible experience. According to the TITAN Awards jury, Symbiosis successfully explores the inseparable and mutually evolving connections among humanity and nature, individuals and society, and the self and the divine, demonstrating an outstanding level of innovation.

The physical installation of Symbiosis exhibited at the National Taiwan Arts Education Center.
