As generative AI continues to drive industrial transformation, one of the most critical challenges for higher education is turning AI from a trending topic into a practical productivity tool. On March 25, Feng Chia University hosted the 2026 MATLAB® Day AI Campus Seminar in Room 418 of the College of Information and Electrical Engineering Building. Organized by the Office of Information Technology, the AI x MATLAB Faculty Learning Community, and TeraSoft, the official MATLAB distributor in Taiwan, the event focused on the theme of “Making AI Your Research Assistant.” The seminar attracted faculty members and students eager to explore how AI can help overcome barriers in programming and hardware development through standardized workflows.

The 2026 MATLAB® Day AI Campus Seminar was held at Feng Chia University on March 25.

Since implementing a campus-wide MATLAB and Simulink licensing program in 2015, Feng Chia University has remained committed to the philosophy of “resources without boundaries and learning without barriers.” The university has now upgraded all software services to MATLAB 2025b, the latest version available.

To extend advanced computing capabilities across campus, the Office of Information Technology has established a comprehensive research ecosystem. Faculty members and students can access resources through the Cloudapp platform, utilize computer laboratories for hands-on practice, or download software packages according to their research needs. This long-term investment has not only supported the Department of Automatic Control Engineering, Department of Communications Engineering, and Department of Electronic Engineering in becoming the first programs in Taiwan to earn the EUR-ACE® quality label from the European Network for Accreditation of Engineering Education (ENAEE), but has also significantly enhanced students’ career readiness and competitiveness in industry.

During the seminar, application engineers from TeraSoft delivered a series of technical demonstrations highlighting three key ways AI is transforming research and development:

  • AI as Both Mentor and Assistant (MATLAB Copilot in Practice) By describing research logic in natural language, users can automatically generate code, documentation, and test cases. This conversational approach to development allows graduate students to devote less time to debugging and more time to higher-level academic thinking.
  • Making Sense of Complex Data (Building Standardized AI Workflows) Using MATLAB’s integrated platform, researchers can preprocess sensor signals and perform feature engineering to transform unstructured data into standardized inputs. This process improves reproducibility across interdisciplinary research projects—an essential requirement for industry collaboration.
  • Bridging Virtual and Physical Environments (Seamless Hardware Deployment) Through automatic code generation in MATLAB and Simulink, researchers can deploy AI models directly onto microcontrollers (MCUs) without manually writing complex C code or hardware drivers. This capability enables AI applications to move efficiently from simulation environments to real-world devices, achieving true integration of theory and practice.

The Office of Information Technology and the AI x MATLAB Faculty Learning Community at Feng Chia University, in collaboration with TeraSoft, hosted the 2026 MATLAB® Day Seminar, attracting faculty members and students to exchange ideas on practical AI applications.

Supported by the university’s recent investments in high-performance computing infrastructure and the full suite of MATLAB toolboxes, Feng Chia University faculty members and students have already achieved impressive results in a variety of practical projects. These include award-winning performances in the drone category of the Information Application Service Innovation Competition as well as recognition in numerous academic paper competitions.

Ching-Huei Huang, faculty advisor of the AI x MATLAB Faculty Learning Community and professor in the Department of Automatic Control Engineering, emphasized that “digital transformation is a marathon, and standardized tools are the best running shoes.” Looking ahead, the university will continue collaborating with TeraSoft to provide professional technical consultation and training opportunities, strengthening its development in AI education and research while cultivating industry-ready technology talent.
