Associate Professor Sophie Colline of the Department of Industrial Engineering and Systems Management at Feng Chia University has once again gained international recognition. Following her two Platinum Awards at the winter season of the Future Art & Design Award (FADA) in the United Kingdom, her design works “Symbiosis – Weaving a Net Zero Life” and “Louis XIV-Series Women's Shoes: Wrinkled Facade High Heels” have each earned Silver Awards at the 2026 MUSE Design Awards in the categories of Product Design (Sustainable Living / Environmental Preservation) and Fashion Design, respectively. These achievements further demonstrate her exceptional creativity and innovative design capabilities.
Established by the International Awards Associate (IAA) in 2015, the MUSE Design Awards is one of the world's most prestigious interdisciplinary design competitions, attracting professional designers and academic institutions from around the globe each year.
Among the award-winning works, “Symbiosis – Weaving a Net Zero Life” represents the culmination of a three-year industry-academia collaboration between Sophie Colline and Dah Fong Enterprise that began in 2022. The project utilizes recycled textile offcuts and factory waste materials as its primary medium, integrating material innovation with circular design principles. The work provides a tangible example of how businesses can advance toward net-zero transformation and has already secured an invention patent.
Inspired by nomadic cultures and Indigenous weaving traditions, the design transforms discarded textile selvages into a multifunctional “Waste Textile Selvedge Rug Stool.” Through a unique weaving technique, the object can be unfolded into a rug or rolled into a stool, seamlessly shifting between forms. By challenging conventional perceptions of waste materials and assigning them new value, the project encourages people to rethink the symbiotic relationship between human beings, objects, and the environment. It demonstrates that sustainability is not merely an abstract concept but an experience that can be incorporated into everyday life.

Another award-winning project, “Louis XIV-Series Women's Shoes: Wrinkled Facade High Heels,” showcases Sophie Colline's more than a decade of expertise in footwear design. Drawing upon techniques she learned while studying with renowned designers in Italy, including Ilaria Papucci of Salvatore Ferragamo, she combined traditional craftsmanship with visual inspiration from 17th-century French royal neckwear.
The result is an original wrinkled upper construction technique, paired with hammered-texture gold wooden heels to create a layered and sculptural aesthetic. The design successfully balances elegance, craftsmanship, and contemporary fashion innovation.

The continued recognition of Sophie Colline's work through internationally respected awards such as the UK's FADA and the U.S.-based MUSE Design Awards highlights the broad appeal of her creative vision across cultures and evaluation perspectives.
To further promote sustainable design concepts, the “Symbiosis” series has been touring Taiwan since 2024. The exhibition will be presented at Dadun Gallery VII of the Taichung Dadun Cultural Center beginning March 21, and will subsequently be displayed at Jhih-Jhen Hall of the Kaohsiung Cultural Center starting June 12. Visitors from all sectors are warmly invited to attend and engage in discussions on sustainability and design innovation.
