Alumni Support Fuels Feng Chia University’s Research and Global Vision
On Feng Chia University’s journey to advance scientific research and internationalization, alumni and friends have consistently stepped forward at pivotal moments, enabling the University’s vision to move steadily ahead. This year marks the 55th anniversary of alumnus Ming-Ho Lo’s graduation—an anniversary that is both personally meaningful and symbolically reflective. Choosing this milestone year, Mr. Lo has demonstrated his commitment to his alma mater through concrete action, donating NTD 55 million to support research development and talent cultivation at Feng Chia University.
Mr. Lo has long shared a deep, cross-generational friendship with Dr. Hsi-Kai Tsou, a Distinguished Alumnus of Feng Chia University. Inspired by Dr. Tsou’s vision and sincere recommendation, Mr. Lo made a generous contribution to support the research and development of the Feng Chia University–Fraunhofer Innovation Platform and the Institute of Plasma. His support injects critical momentum into Feng Chia’s sustained efforts in frontier technologies and international collaboration.
Deep Roots in Japan, A Profound Understanding of Global Perspective
After graduating from Feng Chia University, Mr. Lo built a career that transcended national borders, maintaining long-standing and close partnerships with Japan’s industrial sector. Over the years, he has personally witnessed Japanese enterprises’ dedication to technology, their emphasis on talent, and their keen global outlook. These experiences have led him to a firm conviction: without international exchange, there can be no future for scientific research; without a global perspective, a university’s progress will lose its driving force.
Although he has been away from campus for many years, his care for his alma mater has never diminished. He has continued to follow Feng Chia’s development in international cooperation and cross-border research, firmly believing that the University has the potential to secure a place on the Asian—and even global—technology stage. When Dr. Tsou introduced him to Feng Chia’s vision of collaboration with Germany’s Fraunhofer research institutions, as well as the vast potential of plasma technology in materials, intelligent manufacturing, and medical applications, Mr. Lo offered his support without hesitation. In his view, this represents precisely the direction Feng Chia must pursue.
A Key Partner in Advancing Research: Professor Chu-Liang Ho’s Expertise and Commitment
The two major research units benefiting from this donation—the Feng Chia University–Fraunhofer Innovation Platform and the Institute of Plasma—are both led by Chair Professor Chu-Liang Ho of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. For many years, Professor Ho has devoted himself to advanced materials, plasma technology, and international scientific collaboration, guiding his team to establish a solid research foundation both domestically and internationally. He describes these two units as bridges that continuously channel world-class research energy into Feng Chia University and industry alike, enabling students to engage with industry partners and advance in step with global developments.
Mr. Lo understands well that the path of scientific research is never easy. Precisely because of this, timely support is essential. His donation allows research teams to focus more fully on technological breakthroughs, equipment enhancement, and talent cultivation, while laying a stronger foundation for Feng Chia University’s ongoing expansion of global collaboration.
Looking Back on 55 Years: Achievement and the Beginning of Giving Back
Fifty-five years is more than the number of years since graduation—it is a circle in life’s journey, symbolizing the accumulation of experience, the broadening of perspective, and a willingness to give back to society and education. Mr. Lo often says, “A significant part of my achievements began with the foundation Feng Chia gave me.” Now, at this symbolic moment, he has chosen to return to that starting point through concrete action, supporting the University as it reaches for new heights.
Dr. Tsou has played a vital role in this process. With the insight and compassion of a medical professional, he recognizes Feng Chia’s potential in interdisciplinary research and firmly believes that timely support can bring more innovative achievements to global attention. His recommendation not only made this generous act possible, but also helped usher Feng Chia University into a new chapter of international scientific research.
Kindness Inspires Kindness, Research Shapes an Unlimited Future
Feng Chia University firmly believes that a university’s strength comes not only from research and teaching on campus, but also from trust and connection across generations. The generosity of Mr. Lo and Dr. Tsou stands as a powerful testament to this connection. They recognize Feng Chia’s commitment to internationalization and innovative research, and are willing to be a driving force behind the University’s continued progress.
Because of their support, more Feng Chia students will gain access to world-class research platforms; more innovative projects will be able to set sail with confidence; and more research成果 will be recognized internationally. This is not merely a donation—it is an expression of hope: hope that Feng Chia University will continue to shine on the global stage over the next 55 years.
The faculty, staff, and students of Feng Chia University extend their deepest gratitude to Mr. Ming-Ho Lo and Dr. Hsi-Kai Tsou. Your generosity reinforces our belief that education can change the future, and that goodwill can make the world a better place.

Established at Feng Chia University in 2024, FIP‑SPE@FCU marks Taiwan’s first Fraunhofer FIP–based applied research organization dedicated to international innovation, representing a milestone in the University’s advancement of globally connected, application‑oriented research.
