The National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) recently announced the list of approved College Student Research Projects. Feng Chia University ranked sixth nationwide in the number of approved projects, with an acceptance rate exceeding 50%, demonstrating strong academic and research capabilities as well as interdisciplinary talent cultivation. This program is the most important undergraduate research platform in Taiwan, not only fostering students’ independent thinking and research abilities but also deepening faculty-student collaboration and the campus research atmosphere. At Feng Chia, these achievements are never accidental, but the result of teachers’ long-term guidance and support.

For Feng Chia University, encouraging students to participate in the NSTC College Student Research Project is an investment of time in something valuable for the future. At the entrance of the Main Library, a large banner reads: “The most beautiful scenery at Feng Chia—big fish leading small fish, strength in companionship.” These simple words reflect the spirit of co-creating research energy between teachers and students.

In the 2025 academic year, Feng Chia University submitted a total of 284 project applications, of which 145 were approved, resulting in an acceptance rate of over 51%. Behind these 284 applications are 284 dedicated teachers, accounting for 43% of all full-time faculty. These numbers are not just statistics; they reflect the university’s deep foundation in talent cultivation, research investment, and interdisciplinary collaboration. They also illustrate how Feng Chia, through the companionship and guidance of every teacher, propels students onto the stage of independent research and innovative thinking.

According to Professor Ben-Ray Jai, the main promoter of the NSTC College Student Research Project at Feng Chia, the answer to such achievements is simple: “companionship.”

It may sound easy, but behind it lies the need for passionate teachers and strong support from the university’s systems and administrative resources to help students regain motivation and find confidence. This companionship is not just a slogan—it is embedded in the DNA of Feng Chia’s faculty. Just like the banner says, “big fish leading small fish,” every instance of guidance and discussion passes on strength, making the journey of teachers and students together the most beautiful scenery on campus.

Among the 145 approved student research projects, Kai-Yo Lin from the Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science was inspired by the presentation pointer used by teachers and developed an intelligent presentation assistance system by integrating AI and speech recognition technology. During the process, Professor Nien-Lin Hsueh provided direction and guidance, encouraging Lin to independently overcome technical challenges and continuously improve research outcomes. Fu-Guei Wang from the Bachelor's Program of Artificial Intelligence Technology and Application, feeling anxious about the gap between learning and application, chose to research the differences in AI courses across Taiwan. Teacher Ju-Chuan Wu sacrificed holidays to discuss papers with students and helped submit research results to international conferences. Yi-Hsun Wu from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering faced the challenge of interdisciplinary industry demands and, with resources and practical seminar experience provided by teacher Ju-Liang He, successfully overcame technical difficulties and expanded research capabilities.
