The “Central Taiwan Ten-University Summer Joint Service Team,” jointly initiated by Feng Chia University, Tunghai University, and China Medical University in 2006, held the “20th Central Taiwan Ten-University Summer Joint Service Team Flag Presentation Ceremony” this afternoon (3rd) at Feng Chia University. Over the past 20 years, the service team has expanded from three to ten universities and colleges in central Taiwan, with nearly a thousand students participating and serving thousands of rural children, making it the largest and most historic cross-university summer service initiative in central Taiwan.

This year’s ceremony returned to Feng Chia University, one of the founding schools, carrying special symbolic meaning. Forty-one student and faculty representatives from Providence University, China Medical University, Tunghai University, Hungkuang University of Science and Technology, Chaoyang University of Technology, Yu Da University of Science and Technology, Chung Shan Medical University, Overseas Chinese University, Asia University, and Feng Chia University gathered together, pledging to fulfill social responsibility through concrete actions. The ceremony was filled with youthful energy and joy. Principals Chih-Chia Hsu of Yuchi Elementary School, Nantou County, and Cheng-Tse Lee of Xincheng Elementary School, both service sites this year, also attended to cheer on the service students.

President Vey Wang of Feng Chia University remarked in her speech that the 20th anniversary of the service team is highly significant. The students’ dedication demonstrates university students’ sense of social responsibility and action. “I was immediately touched by the enthusiasm upon entering the venue.” She emphasized that participating in service not only allows students to apply their professional knowledge in practice but also fosters growth in teamwork and curriculum design. She especially thanked the two elementary schools for providing service sites and the ten universities for their joint support, wishing this year’s event great success.

Principal Chih-Chia Hsu of Yuchi Elementary School noted that the joint service team’s first event at the school last year received an enthusiastic response from students, and this year’s registration was “fully booked as soon as it opened,” reflecting the students’ high expectations. Principal Cheng-Tse Lee of Xincheng Elementary School also pointed out that the service team’s curriculum covers diverse fields such as science, culture, arts, and medical care, allowing children to experience learning content they rarely encounter, making it both enriching and fun. Both principals affirmed and thanked the students for their passion and dedication, bringing unforgettable summer memories to the children.

At the ceremony, forty-one service students completed their oath under the supervision of President Vey Wang, demonstrating their firm commitment to volunteer service. Afterwards, President Wang personally presented the flag, which was received by Chief Coordinator Chi-Wei Tsai of Yuchi Elementary School and Chief Coordinator Yu-Hsin Sung of Xincheng Elementary School, symbolizing the passing of responsibility and the start of action.
