With the rise of generative AI applications, Feng Chia University has partnered with tech giant Dell to fully upgrade campus equipment to the Windows 11 operating system and procure Microsoft 365 Copilot for staff use, setting a new benchmark for smart campuses. As Windows 10 support is set to end in October 2025, Feng Chia has not only completed its upgrade plan ahead of schedule but is also actively deploying AI in teaching and administrative applications.

Feng Chia University and Dell have been collaborating for over five years, jointly promoting the transformation of smart computer classrooms since 2019, continuously enhancing the learning environment and teaching quality for students.
Since 2023, Feng Chia University, with Dell's assistance, has been replacing equipment in computer classrooms, multimedia classrooms, and administrative departments. New devices are equipped with the Windows 11 operating system, while older devices are upgraded by the Office of Information Technology. Currently, over 70% of devices are running Windows 11, with the goal of completing the upgrade by October this year.
Dr. Kuo-Hao Tang, Vice President and Chief Information Officer of the Office of Information Technology at Feng Chia University, stated, "Our teaching goal is to provide advanced technical equipment and practical training, equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed to adapt to rapid industry changes and excel in the future workplace. Fully upgrading to Windows 11 and introducing AI tools is the best example of this commitment."
In addition to software and hardware upgrades, Feng Chia is also addressing cybersecurity challenges. Dr. Che-Cheng Chang, Director of the Teaching Technology Center, pointed out that after Windows 10 support ends, existing devices will face cybersecurity risks, necessitating accelerated upgrade efforts. Over a thousand computers across the campus have undergone internal testing and validation to ensure uninterrupted classroom teaching. The upgrade process has been designed to be as seamless as possible, allowing teachers to transition without disruption.
Dr. Che-Cheng Chang further explained, "With robust hardware, we have greater flexibility in the software we can install. For example, Dell provided Copilot+ PCs for testing last year. These devices, equipped with NPU technology, offer higher computational power, making them particularly suitable for advanced teaching models such as small language models and AI applications."
As an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, Dr. Che-Cheng Chang has already introduced AI courses within the department, utilizing public cloud resources for student hands-on practice. The future integration of Copilot+ PCs will facilitate the development of on-premises AI application courses, enhancing teaching flexibility and expanding application scopes.
In terms of AI applications, Feng Chia University has taken the lead in developing "Xiao-Q," a campus smart robot powered by large language models (LLM). Xiao-Q integrates the university's knowledge base to provide round-the-clock teaching and administrative support services. To improve administrative efficiency, the university has also implemented Microsoft 365 Copilot, assisting faculty and staff with data analysis and document processing, bringing AI tools into daily operations.

Feng Chia University and Dell have been collaborating for over five years, jointly promoting the transformation of smart computer classrooms since 2019, continuously enhancing the learning environment and teaching quality for students. Facing challenges such as Windows upgrades and AI applications, Dell has provided timely support and technical assistance, demonstrating the trust and synergy of a long-term partnership.
Dr. Che-Cheng Chang stated, "After completing the Windows 11 upgrade, the next focus will be on introducing Copilot and cloud models into the university. This aligns with the President's vision that Feng Chia University, as a school with a focus on science and engineering, will continue to embrace new technologies as part of its long-term development goals."
