Under the guidance of Prof. Jeng‑Yong Ju from the Master’s Program in Green Energy Technology at Feng Chia University, a team of 13 faculty members and students embarked on a 60‑day internship program in Thailand on June 26. The project, “Bio‑Green Energy Net‑Zero Emission Practice and Social Design Service Program,” received support from the Ministry of Education and brought the team to four major Thai universities: Chiang Mai University, Maejo University, Chiang Mai Rajabhat University, and Mae Fah Luang University.

The team conducted interdisciplinary ESG‑related research covering areas such as urban planning, green energy utilization, environmental monitoring, and sustainable tourism. The goal was to combine Feng Chia University’s expertise with ESG concepts to contribute to Thailand’s sustainable development.

Innovation and Research Across Four Thai Universities

At Chiang Mai University, FCU students applied architectural and IT knowledge to redesign the area surrounding Nimmanhaemin Road—adding sidewalks, bicycle lanes, and dedicated parking for bicycles and motorcycles to improve mobility amid rising tourism.

At Maejo University, the team explored innovative photovoltaic technologies using organic dyes to absorb sunlight and convert it into electricity—an important step toward advancing green energy solutions.

At Chiang Mai Rajabhat University, the team used Google Earth Engine to analyze satellite data, integrating GIS and remote sensing techniques to monitor land surface temperature and air pollution distribution in Northern Thailand—providing key environmental insights for policymakers.

At Mae Fah Luang University, the team designed smart trash bins to address waste management challenges in tourist areas, aiming to expand the project from campus to the broader Chiang Rai community and tourist sites.

These cross‑disciplinary projects showcased FCU students’ outstanding performance in international collaboration and practical application of professional knowledge.

Educational Service: Bringing Technology and Learning to Rural Thailand

As part of their social design work, the team delivered 44 refurbished computers donated by the ASUS Foundation to the Young Charity Foundation (YCF), New Life Center Headquarters, and its branches. FCU students offered computer, Chinese, and English courses, improving local students’ digital literacy and broadening their opportunities.

Their efforts embodied a belief emphasized by Chairperson Cheng‑Shu Kao during the World Economic Forum course:

“Education is the foundation of a nation’s development. The world’s problems are too complex for any single person—or even education alone—to solve perfectly. But through education, we can make things better, step by step. And that is the purpose of education.”

This spirit reflects FCU students’ motivation to bring meaningful service to rural communities in Thailand.

A Journey of Growth, Impact, and Global Vision

The social service program was not merely a donation effort—it marked the beginning of continuous learning and personal growth. For local students, the refurbished computers became vessels of hope, granting access to broader knowledge.

For the FCU students, the 60‑day internship allowed them to apply what they learned, participate in international cooperation, engage in cultural exchange, understand global challenges, and strengthen their international perspectives.

This is a story of education, hope, and the future—one that Feng Chia University continues to write with action.
