The 54th National Skills Competition, organized by the Ministry of Labor, was held from July 17 to 21 at the Nangang Exhibition Center in Taipei. A total of 1,031 top competitors from across Taiwan participated in 69 skill categories.
Students from the Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science at Feng Chia University delivered outstanding performances. Yan‑Ting Kuo won second place nationwide in the Cloud Computing Category, while Wei‑Zhen Yu and Qiu‑Tong Liu received Merit Awards in the Cybersecurity Category.
Applying Real‑World Experience to Competition Success
Reflecting on his achievement, Yan‑Ting Kuo shared that this was his third consecutive year competing in the Cloud Computing category, and he was thrilled to win the silver medal in the year of his graduation. He expressed special gratitude to Prof. Ju‑Juan Wu, Executive Director of the College of Cloud Innovation, for her guidance.
This year, Yan‑Ting participated in two major development projects at Feng Chia University:
1.Building a campus foot‑traffic model using image‑based data, and
2.Developing the university’s overseas study application query system
Both projects were deployed on cloud platforms. These hands‑on experiences helped him better understand real‑world scenarios during the competition, allowing him to respond quickly and accurately to practical problem‑solving tasks—ultimately contributing to his excellent result.

Cybersecurity Team Also Shines
Students Wei‑Zhen Yu and Qiu‑Tong Liu also demonstrated their expertise in the Cybersecurity Category, earning Merit Awards. The competition included tasks such as:
- Computer and network security system hardening
- Anomaly detection and analysis
- Digital evidence collection and investigation
- Defense techniques against cyber‑attacks
Their recognition at the national level reflects their solid capabilities in information security.
