The new Department of Foreign Languages and Literature at Feng Chia University, to be launched in September 2002, will provide students with excellent language instruction and a broad education in the humanities. We believe that effective language learning should be content_based. For students to achieve fluency in a foreign language they should be exposed to a comprehensive range of teaching, from simple everyday English to the complexity of the masterpieces of great literature.
The new Department will have an intake of forty students per year, among the lowest in Taiwan. Furthermore, writing classes of only ten students, combined with tutorials from native English speakers, will provide intensive language training. Freshmen students are offered a special "Information Technology and Internet English" course and can easily get online from wireless computers offered by Feng Chia University at a generous discount. We also offer the opportunity for students to study abroad, including language/literature courses in the beautiful surroundings of Cambridge, UK. Drawing on 40 years of history and using the most up_to_date classroom facilties, Feng Chia University will establish a competitive and ambitious program designed to meet all the students' needs.
