AIA Forum on AI Transformation and Industrial Applications Held at Feng Chia University Lee-Feng Chien Maps Out a “Fleet-Based Global Expansion” Strategy for Taiwanese Companies

Amid the global wave of artificial intelligence, Feng Chia University is not only actively implementing smart innovation on campus but is also committed to supporting industrial transformation in central Taiwan. On April 15, the Taiwan Artificial Intelligence School (AIA) hosted the 2026 Central Taiwan Industrial AI Transformation and Practical Applications Forum at the Lecture Theater of Virtuosi Hall. Vice President Kuo-Hao Tang attended the industry-academia panel discussion in person. As AIA’s designated certification partner in central Taiwan, Feng Chia University was granted special access for its faculty and students to participate, enabling them to engage directly with industry leaders and gain firsthand insights into emerging trends.

During the first session of the forum, former Google Taiwan General Manager Lee-Feng Chien delivered a keynote speech titled“Going Global: A New Future for Taiwanese Enterprises in the AI Era.” He noted that while Taiwan is benefiting from a golden age of AI infrastructure development, the country’s declining birthrate is forcing traditional manufacturing models that rely on population-driven advantages to undergo transformation.

Chien explained that as Agentic AI demonstrates capabilities in logical reasoning and task execution that increasingly rival or surpass human performance, businesses must move beyond simply using AI to “work faster” and instead leverage it to “work smarter” by strengthening innovation and core R&D. In the future workplace, human-AI collaboration will become the norm, with employees transitioning from task executors to managers who direct and supervise AI systems operating around the clock.

Addressing the future of manufacturing, Chien emphasized that AI-powered recommendation systems will drive a new era of mass personalization. Companies must shift away from traditional large-scale standardized production and adapt to growing demand for customized, small-batch orders. He encouraged businesses to adopt a “Taiwan Plus One” strategy to expand into global markets, using AI to overcome language barriers and facilitate international market testing. He also urged Taiwanese enterprises to follow TSMC’s example by forming multinational “fleet-based” ecosystems that enhance global visibility, attract world-class talent, and address talent shortages in the international labor market.

Following the keynote speech, Lee-Feng Chien joined Tsun-Hsiao Lee, Director-General Secretary of the Administration for Industrial Development, Ministry of Economic Affairs; Kuo-Hao Tang, Vice President of Feng Chia University; and leaders of three major industrial associations in central Taiwan—Cheng-Feng Huang, Wei-Chun Chang, and Tso-Liang Lo—for an in-depth panel discussion.

Representing academia, Tang highlighted that Feng Chia University is positioned at the forefront of AI education, driving structural transformation in both teaching and research. Through AI-assisted teaching systems, faculty members can devote more attention to cultivating students’ critical thinking, value-based judgment, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills—capabilities that are essential in a rapidly changing future.

Tang also revealed that the university is preparing to establish Taiwan’s only Semiconductor School that encompasses the entire semiconductor value chain. This initiative aims to ensure that Feng Chia University remains a leading talent incubator capable of meeting evolving industry demands.

The forum served not only as a platform for exchanging technological knowledge and industry insights but also as a starting point for deeper collaboration between academia and industry. Through ongoing dialogue, Feng Chia University hopes to help students anticipate workplace transformation and develop AI collaboration skills while continuing to support the digital transformation of central Taiwan’s industries. By leveraging AI-driven innovation, the university seeks to promote industrial upgrading and foster a future where technological advancement and human-centered values progress hand in hand.
