Feng Chia University Director Dr. Lu Chih-Yuan Honored with George E. Pake Prize in Applied Physics

Dr. Lu Chih-Yuan, our school's director, CEO of Macronix International, and Chairman of Ardentec, recently received the prestigious George E. Pake Prize from the American Physical Society (APS) in 2024, honoring his exceptional contributions to physics research and industry leadership. He is the first Chinese entrepreneur in nearly 40 years to receive this honor, highlighting Taiwan's semiconductor industry's global recognition. Dr. Lu's dedication to technological innovation is evident in his leadership at Macronix, where he has spearheaded breakthroughs in Non-Volatile Memory (NVM) technology since joining Macronix in 1999. His achievements include pioneering the creation of the world's first 1Gb Flash chip with 4 bits per cell and implementing advanced technologies like 3D NAND/NOR.

With almost four decades of experience in the semiconductor industry, Dr. Lu has published over 580 academic papers, holds more than 160 international patents, and has received numerous awards, including the IEEE Millennium Medal and the IEEE Frederik Philips Award. The recent George E. Pake Prize further underscores his lifelong dedication to Taiwan's semiconductor industry.

Dr. Lu's contributions extend beyond industry, as he has provided invaluable insights to Feng Chia University since his appointment as director in 1999. Collaborations with Ardentec and Feng Chia University have enhanced semiconductor testing technology and talent cultivation. Additionally, Dr. Lu serves as a guest lecturer, sharing insights into emerging technologies with university staff.

His commitment to both industrial operation and academic research serves as a model for the Feng Chia University community.
