Fraunhofer IST Delegation Visits Feng Chia University to Advance FIP-SPE@FCU Collaboration

From October 28 to November 2, 2025, a delegation from the Fraunhofer IST — including Dr.-Ing. Ralf Bandorf, Dipl.-Phys. Holger Gerdes, Dr.-Ing. Stefan Körner, and Dr.-Ing. Christian Stein — visited Feng Chia University (FCU) to conduct academic and collaborative activities under the FIP-SPE@FCU.

During the visit, Dipl.-Phys. Holger Gerdes, Dr.-Ing. Stefan Körner, and Dr.-Ing. Christian Stein delivered lectures at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, sharing their expertise on “Challenges in Generating Data for Machine Learning (ML) & Artificial Intelligence (AI)”, “Thin Film Coatings for Next-Generation PEM Electrolyzers” and “Hot-Filament CVD Diamond Technology and Applications.”

Dr.-Ing. Christian Stein delivered a lecture on "Hot Filament CVD Diamond Technology and Applications."

Dipl.-Phys. Holger Gerdes delivered a lectures on “Challenges in Generating Data for Machine Learning ML & Artificial Intelligence AI.”

Dr.-Ing. Stefan Körner delivered a lectures on “Thin Film Coatings for Next-Generation PEM Electrolyzers.”

The lectures provided not only an enlightening learning opportunity for students but also valuable academic inspiration for faculty members. Both students and professors appreciated the in-depth technical discussions and real-world perspectives presented by the Fraunhofer researchers. The exchange fostered a deeper understanding of how surface engineering and thin-film technologies can drive innovation in fields such as clean energy and advanced materials, further strengthening the academic ties between Fraunhofer IST and Feng Chia University.
