The mission of the department of Water Resources Engineering and Conservation is to prepare graduates for water-related professions. Three aspects are emphasized in current research and training. The first is the hydraulic problems encountered in land development in Taiwan, which includes soil conservation in slope areas, erosion along mountain rivers and sedimentation in reservoirs, eco-hydraulic designs for fish and eco-systems, urban flooding and drainage systems for rural areas, pollutant transportation/prevention in rivers and groundwater. The second emphasis is sustainable utilization of water resources and water quality management, which includes optimization and instantaneous operation of reservoirs, surface water-groundwater allocation and stochastic operation. The third emphasis is new technology in water resources education and water quality management, which includes electronic design of traditional hydraulic problems and hydro-informatics technologies.
